SIXTH SESSION OF THE NATIONAL COUNCIL BEGINS

Friday, November 19, 2010: Presided over by the Hon’ble Chairperson, the sixth session of the National Council began with the offering of Marchhang. In his opening address, the Hon’ble Chairperson expressed gratitude to His Majesty the King and His Majesty the Fourth Druk Gyalpo, for granting semso and consoling the victims of Chamkhar fire mishap. He also expressed appreciation to those who significantly contributed to the restoration work for the people affected by the fire. Speaking on the review process of the National Council, he extended his gratitude and appreciation to the Hon’ble Members and Committees for putting rigorous effort in the scrutiny of bills, review of acts and policies and for taking initiatives to visit Colleges and schools and disseminating information on ‘democracy, parliament and role of National Council in the democratic set up’. In its sixth session, the National Council will deliberate on Water Bill 2010, Financial Service Bill 2010, Child Care & Protection Bill 2010, Child Adoption Bill 2010, Income Tax (Amendment) Bill 2010, Anti-Corruption (Amendment) Bill 2010, Penal Code (Amendment) Bill 2010, Civil & Criminal Procedure Code (Amendment) Bill 2010, Ratification of International Convention against Doping in Sports, Ratification of SAARC Convention on Cooperation on Environment. The sixth session of the National Council is scheduled to conclude on Thursday, December 9, 2010.
